Culture of Honor

Danny Silk

In this powerful, revelation-packed book, Danny Silk describes the significant paradigm shift in church life, government, and relationships that has created and sustained the revival culture at Bethel Church in Redding, California.

Through many relevant and true-life stories, the church is revealed as a place of freedom, respect, empowerment, and healthy discipline (not punishment). Culture of Honor challenges the status quo of church leadership structure and presents a refreshing view of the five-fold ministry.

Jesus acknowledged this important principle in Matthew 20:25-26:

But Jesus called them to Himself and said, 'You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.

If those with power learn how to empower those around them, then surely it will come to pass that, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

You can apply-today-the truths revealed in this practical yet supernaturally charged set of principles to relationships in your family, workplace, community, ministry, church-wherever you deal with others.

The Harbinger

Jonathan Cahn

My Note: This book is so revealing. You can definitely see God involved. Worth the read. Definitely worth the read.

Is it possible...

That there exists an ancient mystery that holds the secret of America's future?

That this mystery lies behind everything from 9/11 to the collapse of the global economy?

That ancient harbingers of judgment are now manifesting in America?

That God is sending America a prophetic message of what is yet to come?

Before its end as a nation, there appeared in ancient Israel nine specific warnings and omens of national destruction – These same nine Harbingers are now manifesting in America with profound ramifications for America’s future and end-time prophecy.

Hidden in an ancient biblical prophecy from Isaiah, the mysteries revealed in The Harbinger are so precise that they foretell recent American events down to the exact days… the 3,000-year-old mystery that revealed the exact date of the stock market collapse of 2008… the ancient prophecy that was proclaimed from the floor of the US Senate and then came true…and more. The revelations are so specific that even the most hardened skeptic will find it hard to put down. Though it sounds like the plot of a Hollywood thriller – IT’S REAL.

The prophetic mysteries are factual but revealed through a riveting narrative the reader will find hard to put down. The Harbinger opens with the appearance of a man burdened with a message he has received from a mysterious figure called The Prophet. The Prophet has given him nine seals, each containing a message about America s future. As he tells of his encounters with the Prophet, from a skyscraper in New York City, to a rural mountaintop, to Capitol Hill, to Ground Zero, the mystery behind each seal is revealed. As the story unfolds, each revelation becomes another piece in a larger and larger puzzle, the ramifications of which are, even now, altering the course of America and the world.

Damascus Countdown

Joel Rosenberg

(My Note: Joel topped off a great three part series well with this book! Check out the series, it's a page turner!) Israel successfully launches a first strike on Iran, taking out all of their nuclear sites and six of their nuclear warheads. American president William Jackson threatens to support a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning the Jewish State for unprovoked and unwarranted acts of aggression. And the Twelfth Imam prepares to order a genocidal retaliation. Meanwhile, CIA operative David Shirazi has infiltrated the Iranian regime and intercepted top secret intelligence indicating that two Iranian nuclear warheads survived the attack and have been moved to a secure and undisclosed location. In danger not only from the ongoing war between Israel and Iran but also from the increasingly hostile governments in multiple countries, Shirazi and his team are in a race against time to find the remaining nuclear warheads before the most cataclysmic event in the history of the Middle East comes to pass.

Who Made God?

Ravi Zacharias & Norman Geisler

(My Note: Many good things shared in the book, but they only scratch the surface on a number of questions. Further study would be needed on any particular question if one were interested in more thorough answers.)

In the quest for the truth, you need to know what you believe and why you believe it. Who Made God? offers accessible answers to over 100 commonly asked apologetic questions. Bringing together the best in evangelical apologists, this guide is standard equipment for Christians who want to understand and talk about their faith intelligently. Part one answers tough questions about the Christian faith such as: * Who made God? * How can there be three persons in one God? * What is God's ultimate purpose in allowing evil? * Where did the universe come from? * How long are the days of creation in Genesis? * Did Jesus rise from the dead? * Are the records of Jesus' life reliable? * Does the Bible have errors in it? Part two answers tough questions about other faiths, including Islam, Mormonism, Hinduism, Transcendental Meditation, Yoga, Reincarnation, Buddhism, and Black Islam. Relevant stories, questions for reflection and discussion, and a comprehensive list of suggested resources help you dig deeper so you can be prepared to give careful answers that explain the reasons for your faith.

Banker to the Poor

Muhammad Yunus

(My Note: This was an excellen read. I devoured it. Gives real practical hope to making a real impact in the fight against poverty.)

Muhammad Yunus is that rare thing: a bona fide visionary. His dream is the total eradication of poverty from the world. In 1983, against the advice of banking and government officials, Yunus established Grameen, a bank devoted to providing the poorest of Bangladesh with minuscule loans. Grameen Bank, based on the belief that credit is a basic human right, not the privilege of a fortunate few, now provides over 2.5 billion dollars of micro-loans to more than two million families in rural Bangladesh. Ninety-four percent of Yunus's clients are women, and repayment rates are near 100 percent. Around the world, micro-lending programs inspired by Grameen are blossoming, with more than three hundred programs established in the United States alone.

Banker to the Poor is Muhammad Yunus's memoir of how he decided to change his life in order to help the world's poor. In it he traces the intellectual and spiritual journey that led him to fundamentally rethink the economic relationship between rich and poor, and the challenges he and his colleagues faced in founding Grameen. He also provides wise, hopeful guidance for anyone who would like to join him in "putting homelessness and destitution in a museum so that one day our children will visit it and ask how we could have allowed such a terrible thing to go on for so long." The definitive history of micro-credit direct from the man that conceived of it, Banker to the Poor is necessary and inspirational reading for anyone interested in economics, public policy, philanthropy, social history, and business.

Muhammad Yunus was born in Bangladesh and earned his Ph.D. in economics in the United States at Vanderbilt University, where he was deeply influenced by the civil rights movement. He still lives in Bangladesh, and travels widely around the world on behalf of Grameen Bank and the concept of micro-credit.

Joel Rosenberg

(My note: The book is okay. I don't even recommend it, which is surprising because I like his other books.)

America is teetering on a precipice….More and more people are asking, "Can America survive?" What does the future hold?....What does the Bible say about the future of the United States?

The United States has long been the wealthiest, most powerful nation on the face of the Earth in the history of mankind….but now, in the midst of unprecedented and skyrocketing federal debt, severe economic troubles, financial turmoil, political uncertainty, declining morality, a weak Church, growing spiritual apathy and apostasy, historic natural disasters, and myriad other daunting challenges, many wonder if America's best days are behind her.

• Will history's greatest democracy stage a miraculous comeback, returning to the forefront of the world's economic and spiritual stage?

• Can America's remarkable religious heritage be renewed today with a third Great Awakening?

• Or will the rise of China, Russia, Radical Islam, and other nations -- coupled with the U.S.'s severe internal struggles -- send her into a death spiral from which there can be no return?

Implosion will help you understand the enormous economic, social, and spiritual challenges facing the United States in the 21st century, through the lens of biblical prophecy, and explain how you can make a difference at this critical crossroads in our history.

Eternity In Their Hearts

Don Richardson

Don Richardson has studied cultures througout the world and found within hundreds of them startling evidence of belief in the one true God. In Eternity in Their Hearts, Richarson gives fascinating, real-life examples of ways people have exhibited in their histories terms and concepts that have prepared them for the gospel. Read how Pachacuti, the Inca king who founded Machu Picchu, the majestic fortress in Peru, accomplished something far more significant than merely building fortresses, temples or monuments. He sought, reached out and found a God far greater than any popular "god" of his own culture. And there have been others throughout the world, like him, who lived to receive the blessing of the gospel.

Get ready to be amazed at these intriguing examples of how God uses redemptive analogies to bring all men to Himself, bearing out the truth from Ecclesiastes that God "has also set eternity in the hearts of men" (3:11)

Don Richardson

Following a 44-year quest, Don Richardson presents his vision of a charmingly symmetrical unified field, a 22-law ultra-basic "foundation for everything."

Thanks to Albert Einstein, mankind recognizes 4 dimensions--length, breadth, height and time--as comprising the extent continuum that enfolds the entire cosmos. In this book, Don Richardson posits that 3 value dimensions likewise comprise a historically unrecognized Value Continuum. But what are those 3 value dimensions? How do we relate to them as a continuum? Do these 2 invisible continua interact? If so, how? and why is this eternally important to us?

Inevitably, the above starting premise leads to other questions: Why does evil occur? How can it be defeated? Does Big Bang Cosmology really explain our cosmos? These and other wide-ranging postulates and paradoxes fill the pages of UNHIDDEN. Join Don Richardson for a challenging investigation of things that lie "outside the box" of our everyday awareness.

Dreams and Visions

Tom Doyle

(Before I give you the book description below, let me say that this book would help you understand some of the challenges in bringing Christ to the Muslim world. It's a great read and I highly recommend it. Alan)

What would you do if Jesus appeared to you in a dream? What if He came to you in a vision and told you to follow Him? What if these visions continued for over thirty days? would you believe? Would you put your trust in him? Would you devote your life to him?

Would you if you were Muslim?

Pastor Tom Doyle has spent eleven years as a full-time missionary in the Middle East and Central Asia, spreading the word of Jesus Christ. Throughout his journey he has encountered a staggering number of Muslims who were first introduced to Jesus through a vision or dream so powerful that they eventually turned from their lifelong religion of Islam and embraced Christ as their Savior. Despite living in a culture where converting to Christianity can result in execution, these former Muslims have found hope, peace, and inspiration that comes from knowing Christ. Their stories will amaze you. Jesus is reaching out to the Muslims and they are responding. Did you know that Iran has the fastest growing church in the world?

Dreams and Visions is a remarkable collection of stories directly from the world of Islam. Doyle not only relates these stories, but also addresses the questions: Why would God use dreams to reach the Muslim world? Can dreams be trusted? What happens after these dreams or visions occur?

Travel to the heart of the Middle East to meet new believers who have truly been touched by Jesus in the most miraculous way, through their nightly dreams.

The Tehran Initiative

Joel C. Rosenberg

(My Note: Oh, my this new series by Rosenberg is awesome! You gotta read them. He is so good at writing how things may go down in the near future! This is the second book in the series, you can read about, "The Twelfth Imam" below and his third book in the series will come out this fall called, "The Damascus Countdown.")

The world is on the brink of disaster and the clock is ticking. Iran has just conducted its first atomic weapons test. Millions of Muslims around the world are convinced their messiah—known as “the Twelfth Imam”—has just arrived on earth. Israeli leaders fear Tehran, under the Twelfth Imam’s spell, will soon launch a nuclear attack that could bring about a second holocaust and the annihilation of Israel. The White House fears Jerusalem will strike first, launching a preemptive attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities that could cause the entire Middle East to go up in flames, oil prices to skyrocket, and the global economy to collapse. With the stakes high and few viable options left, the president of the United States orders CIA operative David Shirazi and his team to track down and sabotage Iran’s nuclear warheads before Iran or Israel can launch a devastating first strike.

Before We Kill and Eat You

H.B. Garlock

(My Note: There are some really awesome stories in this book! Read it if you get a chance!)

This is the story of Henry B. Garlock's missionary adventures in Africa in the 1920s and 30s. It includes riveting true stories of resurrections, healings, visions, escape from cannibals and even an instance where Henry was bodily transported across a raging river (similar to the experience of Philip in the Book of Acts). Henry Garlock and his wife, Ruth, continued to direct missionary work in Africa even after they returned to the States, crisscrossing the continent and following up on their earlier missionary work. In this Servant Publications' edition, daughter-in-law Ruthanne Garlock has added valuable information to the original book as well as 24 original photographs.

Saddam's Secrets

Georges Sada

(My Note: It's interesting to get an insider's perspective. I would recommend this book!)

Former Iraqi General Sada delivers a riveting inside account of Saddam Hussein's tyranny, including confirmation of the existence and hiding of weapons of mass destruction. Despite being a Christian and refusing to join the Baath Party, Sada was promoted to Saddam's inner circle for his honest advice. Sada criticizes most countries and the United Nations (whose workers he accuses of accepting bribes) for their complicity in propagating Saddam's regime. But he strongly praises Operation Iraqi Freedom, pointing out that no other country would take the first step. The book has an unexpectedly religious angle, being slightly Christian-centric and paranoid over Muslim population growth in the West. Regardless, Sada blames Saddam for destroying Iraq, but remains hopeful the nation will have a chance to become a modern society, fulfilling its great historical legacy.

The Qur'an

An English Translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali

The Holy Book of Islam. Originally given through the Muslim Prophet Muhammad and translated from Arabic into English.

Bruce Olson

Soon after becoming a Christian Bruce Olson had a conviction that God wanted him to be a missionary. Initially he fought the idea but as time went on the conviction became even stronger and more specific, God wanted him in South America. Bruce was only 19 when he boarded a plane for Venezuela.

When Bruce first met an Indian tribe he learnt that they had rejected Christianity because they rejected Western culture. After many trials Bruce was accepted by a Motilone tribe of Indians who let him live with them and learn their language and customs. He also helped with some of their health issues. Bruce built a relationship with one of the younger men and eventually taught him about Jesus. This young man was then able to present the gospel to the rest of the tribe in a way they could relate to. The conversion of this tribe to Christianity and the changes it brought were truly astounding.

Bruce faced further challenges particularly from land settlers wanting to take the Indians land. Through it all though God has continued to work through Bruce and touch the lives of Indian tribes throughout South America.

Mormonism, Mama & Me

Thelma Geer

Thelma was raised in the Mormon Church. As a Mormon child her goal was to marry and after death become a heavenly queen, eternally sealed to her earthly husband, producing spirtual babies together in a vast mansion.

The book is the intensely personal view of "Granny" Geer's life, her Mormon heritage, and her conversion to Jesus Christ.

In Addition to her story, she examines several important tenets of the Mormon faith, comparing them with bibilical truth. Learn the truth behind such assertions as:

  • Jesus was a polygamist
  • Men and women can become gods and goddesses
  • God the Father was the first man, Adam, and the husband of Mary
  • The Holy Spirit is a man
  • Jesus and Lucifer were blood brothers

  • My Time In Heaven

    Richard Sigmund

(My Note: What a great read! If heaven is half this cool, we are in for an awesome future.)

Is there life after death? After a tragic accident, doctors pronounced Richard Sigmund legally dead. Eight hours later, God miraculously brought him back to life on the way to the morgue. During those hours, God allowed him to experience the glorious beauty, heavenly sounds, sweet aromas, and boundless joys of heaven that await every believer. God then returned him back to earth with a mission to tell the world what he saw.

    Living In the Miraculous

    Jim Hockaday

(MY Note: One of my favorites - deep spiritual book, must be read again and again.)

“Humanity was created for it… The soul hungers for it… All creation longs to understand its pulse… I’m speaking of the supernatural pathway to the miraculous… If it could be understood, harnessed and released with purpose, what would you be willing to do to live in it? For all ages and all people, the miraculous is God’s idea! Why not know where you are going, know how to get there, and know what to expect when you’ve arrived? This is the time, the hour and the day to live in the miraculous.LET’S DO IT!”

    Until I Come

    Jim Hockaday

“We’re almost there… I can sense something is about to happen… The body of Christ is about to turn the corner… When the next wave hits…” These statements describe the church and her hunger and expectation for more of God. Each of these statements reflects a mentality that implies the church must wait on God for more of His Spirit. Jesus said, “Until I Come, the works I do you shall do also.” Remember: Jesus had a first miracle, the rest is history. Now, it’s your turn.

    Three Cups of Tea

    Greg Mortensen

In Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time , Greg Mortenson, and journalist David Oliver Relin, recount the journey that led Mortenson from a failed 1993 attempt to climb Pakistan’s K2, the world’s second highest mountain, to successfully establish schools in some of the most remote regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. By replacing guns with pencils, rhetoric with reading, Mortenson combines his unique background with his intimate knowledge of the third-world to promote peace with books, not bombs, and successfully bring education and hope to remote communities in central Asia. Three Cups of Tea is at once an unforgettable adventure and the inspiring true story of how one man really is changing the world—one school at a time.

In 1993 Mortenson was descending from his failed attempt to reach the peak of K2. Exhausted and disoriented, he wandered away from his group into the most desolate reaches of northern Pakistan. Alone, without food, water, or shelter he stumbled into an impoverished Pakistani village where he was nursed back to health.

While recovering he observed the village’s 84 children sitting outdoors, scratching their lessons in the dirt with sticks. The village was so poor that it could not afford the $1-a-day salary to hire a teacher. When he left the village, he promised that he would return to build them a school. From that rash, heartfelt promise grew one of the most incredible humanitarian campaigns of our time.

In an early effort to raise money he wrote letters to 580 celebrities, businessmen, and other prominent Americans. His only reply was a $100 check from NBC’s Tom Brokaw. Selling everything he owned, he still only raised $2,400. But his efforts changed when a group of elementary school children in River Falls, Wisconsin, donated $623.40 in pennies, who inspired adults to begin to take action. The 283 foot Braldu Bridge (pictured above) was completed in 1995 and the Korphe School (left) was completed in 1996. Since then, he’s established 78 schools. In pursuit of his goal, Mortenson has survived an armed kidnapping, fatwas issued by enraged mullahs, repeated death threats, and wrenching separations from his wife and children. Yet his success speaks for itself.

    Perspectives Reader

Ministry of the U.S. Center for World Missions

    The Perspectives Program

The program is run locally around the country by teams of volunteers; alumni who have been personally impacted by Perspectives and have a desire to mobilize their community to God's global purposes. It is hosted by various churches or non-profit organizations around the country. Usually local coordinators try to have Perspectives classes hosted in a different location each year, so as to involve a network of churches and organizations that can reach out to the nations represented in their communities. These locations serve as hosts and supporters of the study program. Shifting the location from year to year helps foster the mentality of it being a neutral, community wide course.

    The Twelfth Imam

    Joel C. Rosenberg

As the apocalyptic leaders of Iran call for the annihilation of Israel and the United States, CIA operative David Shirazi is sent into Tehran with one objective: use all means necessary to disrupt Iran’s nuclear weapons program—without leaving American fingerprints and without triggering a regional war.

As David begins to infiltrate the Iranian government, news spreads throughout the region of an obscure religious cleric hailed as the Islamic messiah known as the Mahdi or the Twelfth Imam. News of his miracles, healings, signs, and wonders spreads like wildfire, as do rumors of a new and horrific war.

With the prophecy of the Twelfth Imam seemingly fulfilled, Iran’s military prepares to strike Israel and bring about the End of Days. Shirazi must take action to save his country and the world, but the clock is ticking.

    Son of Hamas

    Mosab Hassan Yousef

Son of HamasSince he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status . . . and power. But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence, and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader. In Son of Hamas, Mosab Yousef—now called “Joseph”— reveals new information about the world’s most dangerous terrorist organization and unveils the truth about his own role, his agonizing separation from family and homeland, the dangerous decision to make his newfound faith public, and his belief that the Christian mandate to “love your enemies” is the only way to peace in the Middle East.

    Foreign to Familiar

    Sarah Lanier

Weather shapes our different national cultures more than we realize. A cross-cultural worker with wide experience, Lanier explains the vital differences between hot- and cold-climate cultures. This is not just of passing interest, because it dramatically affects how we communicate the gospel within different cultures. In a cold-climate culture, social life is lived primarily within the home. In a hot-climate culture, community life and relationships are conducted outside. Hot-climate cultures are far more relational, much less task-oriented. This an many other differences between the cultures are explained.

A vital book for anyone who wishes to communicate the gospel, anywhere.
